Posted on Friday, Nov 10, 2000 - 8:36 am: Dr. Oglesby,To the good Dr. O. and his mysterious staff: By all means renew my membership as soon as possible PLEASE. When I first joined your site, I don't quite know what I expected.....but I can assure you, it wasn't the comprehensive reports, the thorough, well presented articles, and the wonderful people with their interesting letters and ideas. Watching the stories unfold daily, following the different paths they take , reading Dr. O's thoughts and clear well stated answers to questions.....being able to clarify anything almost instantly....I cannot thank you enough for this opportunity to expand my knowledge and understanding. It is impossible to put a value on this site. I only hope, Dr. O, that you don't get sick of it. Heartfelt thanks, D. |

Posted on Friday, Feb 4, 2000 - 8:11 am: This one had us on top of the world:To: "'roglesby@horseadvice.com'" Subject: Well Done Dr. Oglesby I have been a member of your web site for a few months now, found it to be an informative and entertaining resource, and thought it was about time I wrote and said so. Although I have ridden for several years now, it has only been since I came to San Antonio 18 months ago that I was able to set up my own "two-horse ranch". Besides my own young, sometimes excitable Thoroughbred, I board some friends' more restrained and older Arab on a shared work/care basis. Between the two horses they have presented us with some interesting health and general care challenges. I have usually found an article, sometimes several, and/or forum that relates to whatever challenge is at hand, and they have been invaluable to us in filling in some gaps. We don't hesitate to contribute to the local veterinarians' and farriers' wallets, but the articles give us some background that lets us talk a little more intelligently with them, and I think has actually increased our confidence in what they say and recommend. I have devoured a couple veterinary manuals for horse owners, but have noticed in your articles that you have a knack for "operationalizing" what one (particularly a rookie) should do, and supporting it well with the underlying mechanism at work (I love to know WHY I am doing whatever it is). Sometimes the vet manuals make a jump from A to F, assuming knowledge of B thru E on the part of the reader that is missing in my case. Of particular use to me have been the articles on firstaid/wound management (meaning my TB finds mysterious ways to inflict booboos on himself). Also, the articles on lameness/arthritis/navicular/tendon/ligaments have proved very helpful in working with the vet on the Arabs recent lameness. Visiting the website has become a regular part of my lunch routine. I am going to start working on winning a prize to extend my membership. Sincerely, Eric |

Posted on Sunday, Aug 13, 2000 - 10:31 am: By Lois on Wednesday, July 12, 2000 - 07:56 am:..Thanks so much for all you write. It helps me to organize and sort out what aspects of this to look at. I realize that you can't possibly diagnois or prescribe over the net without ever having seen the horse, but you ask the questions that help me understand what the issues real are. Thanks -Lois |

Posted on Saturday, Apr 10, 1999 - 6:54 am: your information on rabies was more informantive than any info we were able to receicve from our local board of health. our mare died of furious rabies 24 hrs from first showing colicky signs. This was the first horse in palm bch county florida to die from this. the county was not prepared for the shots to vaccinate all 9 people exposed to the horse. this is rare but it happened, from waht we are hearing it should become part of their yearly shots. I hope public awareness becomes more revealant.thank you for all your info and if you need any info from us for future studies e-mail DKAIN@xxx thanks again |
