  Discussion on Hanging hay nets

I only use nets when travelling and when I'm out of hay bags, but after an extended road trip when my fingers were so raw from tying them that I couldn't band a mane, I decided it was time for a change. I bought a couple of simple snaps at the hardware store, the kind that are almost oval in shape, but fatter at one end of the oval (I wish I knew the name of them). Now I keep one on each hay net and I can easily clip the net up into place. In addition to no sore fingers, the net goes up fast enough that I don't have to argue with my horse to give my time enough to tie it, and I can clip it in such a way that I never have a problem with the hay net hanging lower and lower as it empties, which means no risk of tangled feet. I haven't had to fight to untie a hay net knot in 2 years.
