Could this be related? I was at my barn all day Thursday, today Saturday I arrived to see my horse pacing his stalling and scratching everywhere on anything. Once I got his blanket off he looked like bubble pack! He's covered with bumps the size of walnuts! The only thing difference since Thursday is that he was de-wormed on Thursday morning? I called my Vet and he came out and gave him a shot to help with the itching and said the bumps should go down with in 12 hours. Could this somehow be related to his de-worming? He's on a bi-monthly de-worming schedule. I asked the weekend fillin Vet that gave him the shot and he said something about dying bot/larva? I started to itch and stop listening so could you please explain? This has never happen before and I wouldn't think that bots in January in New Hampshire would be an issue, its barley been above 20 degrees for weeks. Thanks

I don't understand why dying bot larvae would cause hives pjduback, most horses have a few larvae, and some many, killed every year. I think he was confusing this with something like onchocerciasis, Diseases of Horses » Skin Diseases, Wounds, and Swellings » Hair and Coat Problems / Itching / Irritated Skin » Onchocerciasis Dermatitis. First I think the chance of a coincidence is high but if it happens again you may have an allergy to the dewormer, though I don't believe I have seen such a report before. DrO
