I just saw in Valley Vet a new alternative to steele shoes. These are similar to easy boots but actually look "easy" to put on. They are significantly more expensive but might be worth it in the long run. Has anyone taken the plunge and used these, if so what is your take on them?

Hello Emily, We have been using these boots for 2 years now and pleased with the results. We and others have been chronicaling our experiences at: » Care for Horses » Hoof Care » The 4 Point or Natural Trim » Took the shoeless plunge ... It is a very long post and the Old Mac stuff towards the end. DrO

How do I determine what size Old Mac boots to get my horse, and should I get them for all four, or just for the front?

Hello Sonya, There is a Old Mac web site that has a table but it is not exactly straight forward. See our experiences in the reference above, » Care for Horses » Hoof Care » The 4 Point or Natural Trim » Took the shoeless plunge for more on this. DrO

Janette, I went to the site you gave and printed out the sizing chart. Thanks, it's really helpful. Since I don't have any of his old shoes, I don't think that would help. Sonya

Sonya, Make sure you have a fresh acurate trim before you measure, this is the key to a good fit. Your very welcome, I am happy to be of any help to anyone anytime.

Sonya - I was told to take a tracing or do an impression on a piece of cardboard and cut it out to fit into the boot and it really helped. Good luck Janet
