I have 50 pound mineral blocks in all of my pastures. I have found my young horses trying to play soccer with them. They end up covered in sand. The blocks always seem to get dirty, even with the older horses.
I finally solved the problem by putting up a corner feeder, drilling holes in it, to let the rain run out and placing the block in there. It works great and the blocks last longer.
