If you need stall mats or runners for barn alleyway, but can't afford expensive "stall mats". Check your area for road management companies, you know, the ones who pull up pavement. They change the belts on the big machinery quite often and usually will give away the old belting. It is usally thick rubber. It can be cut with a utility blade or a skill saw with the blade put in backwards. The rolls are really big but usually they will load them in your truck or flat bed trailer for you just to get rid of them. They work GREAT! Same goes for airports, baggage belts, etc. Call around and check.

Great idea, Lisa. How do you handle them, though . . . to get out of the truck? How many people does it take to unload them? I know that regular stall mats for horses and dairy cattle are pretty heavy and awkward, so I am thinking these would be even more so . . . and why do you need to load the saw blade backwards? I'm trying to picture it. :-) Thank you, Holly

Do they have wires in them? I would be worried about that, but I'm just strange like that...

First I will answer Holly...well, we pushed them off into the alleyway and unrolled them and cut them. If you put the saw blade in backwards the teeth don't get caught on the rubber and easily cut through. But really, a good sharp utility knife will do the trick. Bevin, the ones that I have do not have any metal in them, plus we bank them together and up against the walls so no edges are exposed.
