We have always used a flexible tine chain harrow pulled by our garden tractor to keep our outdoor arena groomed. This year though, we have had an abundance of rain, which brought on an abundance of weeds, and the chain harrow will just not go deep enough to take care of the weeds, even if we weight it down. It needs a deeper harrowing. I am looking at disc harrows and I have also seen cultivators that may do the trick for us, but was wondering what other people use when their arenas need a good workover. We don't have a heavy duty tractor with a 3-point hitch - only a garden tractor so our options are limited. The arena surface consists of native sandy soil- it rarely gets muddy, but does pack down a bit.

When things get bad in an arena I have seen cultivators work wonders. It should both work up the packed surface and chop up the weeds. I don't think the disk will be effective against the weeds.
