I am looking for hints from any one on how to control the Amoninia odor outside the stalls, We have relativley new sand in the turnout pens outside the horse stalls and it has become a favorite for my two gelding so pee in. Sand does;t splash back on your legs! I have tried PDZ in there but it still is getting quite pungent. any hints guys?

What is the ingredient in PDZ? We always used powdered, agricultural lime. Just had a big barrel of it in the barn. Sprinkled it over the wet spots in the stalls after the soiled bedding was removed.

Hi Muffi, the only thing I have found is to dig it up and let pee spot dry in the sun and wind. Then as Holly said put some lime down and cover the hole back up. It takes most of the day for it to dry completely, and of course soon as it is all fresh they have to "mark" their spot. I do that once or twice a week for my geldings pee spot and it keeps the smell down pretty good.

Holly the Web site calls it the Superior Alternative to Lime - All Natural la de da te da... if you know what i mean. actually it a mineral called zeolite. In AZ it worked great - I guess it is just wetter here. It does suggest that the stuff be removed (never noticed that before) so maybe I need to put it down then take it out? I think I'll try a big bag of Lime next. I could try what you suggest Diane but wow that seems a lot of work - Figures that the buggers would pick the only spot to pee all the time right next to the Barn where the sun only hits a short period a day! digging and tossing in the sun sounds like one of my viable options. when they pee away where the sun hits it all the time there is no issue. thanks for the suggestions
