I have a 26 yr old mare who intermittently has a whitish, tinged yellow discharge from one nostril. it might disappear for months and then the discharge is there and then gone again. It is rather profuse when she does have. it Never there when I want to show someone. She is going to have her teeth checked in a week or so, but thought I would check to see if someone has seen this. No cough, no increased temp, but in her previous dental exams she is missing a tooth on that side and she quids alot recently. She is on 60% mushy pellets and a supplement, 40% hay. The discharge has no smell an its not sticky, This discharge has been very on and off for a year or so. She does pack some food debris that I rinse out occasionally. She is on thyoid for the last couple years when she had one bout of laminitis, has done very well on it. Weight is better and her feet are good, joints work better too. She is retired, exercise is ponying. Any ideas on the discharge.

Debbie many of the causes of unilateral nasal discharge are the same that cause nose bleeds and the diagnostic procedures are the same. Check out the article » Equine Diseases » Respiratory System » Nose Bleeds: Epistaxis. DrO
