I've been searching your website after obtaining a blood panel/CBC test on my 15 year old Arabian gelding. The test indicated a low Creatinine level of 1.0 with the reference range being 1.6 to 2.2. According to the article Care For Horses:Nutrition:Performance Nutrition:Creatine from January 2000, it looks like supplementation may not do any good in 'non responders'. Perhaps there are newer developments in this area. Is supplementation generally recommended? Should supplementing a single mineral be a concern. Note, I'm assuming the Creatine is the same or similar to Creatinine. Here are the other out-of-range results from the blood panel with normal ranges in parentheses: creatinine: 1.0 (1.6-2.2) total protein: 7.7 (5.7-7.0) globulin: 4.4 (2.4-4.3) total bilirubin: 1.0 (1.9-3.7) TCO2 (bicarbonate): 24 (25-34) chloride: 106 (91-105) Thank you for supporting an excellent website.

Creatine and creatinine are not the same thing. The former is a molecule made by the body for energy storage while the latter is a waste product of protein metabolism excreted in the urine. Some believe supplementing creatine might improve a horses athletic performance. I am not a believer. DrO
