I have an 11 year old Dutch Warmblood mare who eats 2 lbs. 10% sweet feed and 1 lb. pellets twice each day and most often than not, is very cranky; pins her ears at others, acts up in the trailer, doesn't like to be groomed or have her mane pulled. Could I be overfeeding her too much protein?? She is not at all fat and has eaten this much as long as I've had her - 5 years!

What does she eat for forage and what is the protein in the pellets?

Sheila,

Has she always been cranky or is this something new? Could she have a cyst on her ovary that makes her stay in heat and thus cranky? Is she in a stall or does she have turnout? What do you do with her?

EPSM might be something to consider.
