Hello,

A friend of mine was recently warned about feeding beet pulp with molasses to her Warmbloods. The only explanation was a vague reference to digestion problems. From several feed stores she learned that some customers request the beet pulp without molasses, but beyond that there were no more details or reasoning for it. She was told, however, that the retailers don't know from one order to the next whether they will be getting the beet pulp with or without molasses!

Anyway, is there is a valid concern specific to Warmbloods, and if so, please explain!

Thank you!

I do not know of any particular concerns with Warmbloods and beet pulp with or without a very small amount of mollases for dust control or to bind additives. Of course there are some nutritional aspects you should be aware of and they are oulined in an article » Care for Horses » Nutrition » Roughage and Forage for Horses, an Overview.
