I am not sure if this is the right category, but here goes. Yesterday, July 9, 2007, a family came to our farm with a horse they had found running down the road. We live in Newnan, Georgia and as they were not horse people, we have him now at our place. We have been unable to find his owners nor has anyone contacted the sherrif's office looking for a lost horse. He appears to be a bay TB gelding in reasonable condition and was wearing a halter when caught. He is well behaved on the lead and hasn't busted down the stall so we are assuming he had been well cared for and surely someone must be missing him. If you know of anyone missing a such a horse, please e-mail me at tcates8852@aol.com.

Teresa, the absolute best place to post this info is netposse.org. It is a nationally-used resource for stolen/lost horses. good luck!

I hope this isn't the situation here, but there are going to be more and more 'loose' horses in the US until the slaughterhouse issue is resolved. I don't want to start a heated debate and will not offer my opinion pro or con. I just want to point out that more and more people just turn their unwanted horses loose rather than pay to feed them. There's gotta be a special place in a very hot spot for someone who would do that... Good luck finding the owner!!

Dieliz, I must say the thought has ocurred to me that he was just turned loose. Very strange that no one in the area has claimed him. Up until the last week we have had no rain all summer, everyone's pastures are bone dry, and there is absolutely no hay for sale. In fact, the guy who usually sells me hay is already feeding what little he had of his first cutting to his animals and not selling one bale. I'll let everyone know what happens.

There is a lady in my area who has 55 head of horses on about ten acres. Although she grows some of her own hay, she can't properly care for all those horses. Some are boarders, but most are hers. It is strongly rumored that she would routinely haul a load to one of the nearby slaughterhouses. Since she can't do that anymore, it is said that she has been known to tie up old or sick horses in the woods and let them die. Yes, I am trying to prove this. What a sad, sad situation we are in!!
