Has anyone had any experience using a Chain Link Gate to groom an arena made of sand and dirt? I saw this being used at a major horse show and was told it was better than most expensive harrow type groomers. It was pulled behind a tractor and had a couple of cement blocks on it.

If anyone has any experience please advise as to the best size for the gate, ie: 4'x 10' or 6'x 10'. Also, how is the best way to attach it to a truck and/or tractor.

Thanks,
Jane

Hi Jane

When I used to have a sand arena I used a piece of chain link with wooden weights attached and it worked beautifully. The section I used was around 5' x 8' and I attached it to my tractor with marine rope.

I've also heard of using old bedsprings but haven't had any personal experience with that method.

Besides, where would you get the bedsprings?

If you like to live dangerously, head for the nearest junk yard. They always have a few rusted bedsprings around. Actually, they are kind of an interesting place. You can't believe what you might find there. :-) EO

Guess what! I found bedsprings! We bought our place a couple of years ago and the previous owners had disposed of some junk in a ditch in the pasture. I have already tried them out and they work great. Thanks for the suggestion. I would never have thought of it.

What a great website!
