hold your laughter---on his...um...er... Mr Peeper. Now this would normally not be of great concern-however he is still on his mother and at the breeder...they don't really start handling this little babies until weaning SO it isn't like I can walk out to the 8 week old, scratch his belly until Mr Peeps says hello and politely remove said tick! I can't imagine this is this first time a tick has found such a....private domain in which to squat yet I am a little concerned about infection. Can I hope this "situation" will self resolve or should I...well is there anything one can do??

Dear Leah, I just had to weigh in on this one...what if you took a gob of vaseline and waited for the little guy to, er, well, maybe pee, and just went for it? You might just get the right spot if you're fast. With someone holding the mom on a lead line. Vaseline sometimes works when my dogs get ticks as the bug can't get air and releases when covered with vaseline.I would hate to leave the tick there! -Beth Gordon

I do hate leaving the tick there-trust me. However he is about 2 hours from me-a friend nearby went to visit and saw the attached offender...anyway...since he is not in my care, I hate to make a panicked phone call to the breeder (with 25 foals, his hands are quite full I am sure) if this isn't an emergency situation. These babies are truly left to be with the mamas in the field until weaning so approaching him is going to be a struggle. I am quite sure they could stall mama and snag him-but I hate to cause him stress IF this can resolve. Poor little foalie!

Hmmm, if the tick cannot be manually removed why not squirt some flea and tick kiler suitable for dipping older puppies and kittens up the sheath? DrO

Oh wonderful idea Dr O thank you. I have called the breeder and they were going to take a peek and Peeper-I will pass this suggestion along.
