I have a 6 month old APHA filly that I am fitting for fall futurities. She has been a good eater since birth and has not had any recent changes in feed, feed levels, etc. Last week, she started to not clean up all of her breakfast grain, but would eat hay, and eat lunch & dinner grain & hay. After a few days of this, she started leaving some of her grain at other feedings, and now, for three days, absolutely will not take a bite of grain. She continues to drink water, eat hay, and no apparent illness (temp., snotty nose, etc). She's slightly less "peppy" in her attitude I guess, but probably not significant enough to be apparent to anyone who didn't know her. I've tried opening a new bag of feed (Strategy), offering oats, wet cob, etc. She will not take a bite of any of it. Any ideas here? In looking in her mouth again today, I did notice that she had some blood in the very center of her bottom middle incisor. What's the treatment if she's cracked the tooth or something like that? Thanks for any suggestions. I'd like to get this girl back on her regular feed program soon :o)

Hello Lynn, If you think she is acting like she is not feeling well that should be addressed with an examination to try and determine a cause, mild depression, inappetence, and no fever suggests a possible mild ongoing GI upset but this needs confirmation with an exam. Also possible is teething which might explain the bleeding. Not only is the middle incisor continuing to erupt at this time, the adjacent corner incisor should be soon coming through. DrO
