I was recently told that molasses isn't good to give to foals. The person who told me didn't say why. I used to mix my foals hard feeds with a bit of molasses water but now mix it with a no-name sunflower oil. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Remembering that molasses is a concentrated source of sugar, in a perfect world I would prefer the oil. For more see the fat and oil section of the Nutrition Overview article. However a touch of molasses to bind the nutrients together is not a problem for healthy foals or horses.
