I have a new horse in for training. He was very sensitive about his ears. With patience he has improved but he will still shake his ears just like a cat with ear mites. Could a horse get mites? How could I clean his ears just to make sure there isn;t something there?
This same horse has a normal looking rib cage on his left but on his right from half way back and toward the top heading toward his hip there often seems to be a 'hollow' spot. It is not sore and not aways there, any ideas? thanks

Does he shake his head all the time or just when you try to fool with the ears? If he is touchy about his ears, a common horse behavior, you will either have to train him to not be so sensitive or sedate him to get a look. For suggestions on how you might go about such training see, Training Horses » Training Your Horse's Mind » Modifying a Horses Behavior: Conditioned Responses.
