Discussion on Cordless Vibrator for Clipper Desensitization | |

Posted on Monday, Nov 12, 2007 - 3:42 pm: I acquired several horses that were terrified of clippers. It was particularly a problem for my PRE fillies, who need their manes roached to present correctly. Even the sight of clippers would throw them into wild panic.I bought a cordless multi-speed vibrator (yup) for them. The darn thing is so quiet at its low speed, that it doesn't worry any of them, and you can, uh, increase the vibration as they get more comfortable. After a couple of sessions, the clippers just looked like a giant vibrator, and we were back in business. Thank goodness the thing is small enough to hide in a hand or a pocket, because guess what? It doesn't look like clippers. If you don't mind buying (DrO has slightly changed this sentence) toys for your horses, this is a really painless way to get over the clipper terror. |

Posted on Monday, Nov 12, 2007 - 7:39 pm: Yeah, right, Elizabeth!and you expect us to believe you when you say that's the reason you bought them!Probably not a bad idea, though. Can't you find those message ones that fit in your hand and are for your scalp and shoulders? Or maybe a loud battery operated toothbrush?...might be easier to walk into the barn with it. |

Posted on Monday, Nov 12, 2007 - 10:19 pm: I had to check, make sure I was on the correct site. You're right Sara, I have one of those able to be seen in public kind of shoulder vibrators, it would work great. Wish I had thought of it. |

Posted on Tuesday, Nov 13, 2007 - 12:27 pm: I doubted my understanding of English when reading the subject a little bit... After reflecting in my opinion you should market the idea, double possibilities and think about the fun while shopping[take a horse with you to choose?]Jos |

Posted on Tuesday, Nov 13, 2007 - 1:50 pm: Hmmmm ...I've bought 4 of them for just this purpose, but they keep disappearing from the barn. I have noticed however that my female clients seem much happier. I wonder if there is a connection.DT |

Posted on Thursday, Nov 15, 2007 - 10:11 am: I know for a fact that there is a facility in NoCal that is now using my "method" for all their clipper-shy horses and reporting great results for the horses and many interesting photo-ops (and blackmail opportunities) for the humans. So if you can't live without this approach, I can refer you to a great boarding barn..... |

Posted on Thursday, Nov 15, 2007 - 12:31 pm: Just talked to the 'Haras' where my gelding went last week. They said he was a little bit stressed because they needed to shave him. Didn't find the courage to explain a very aristocratic French gentleman and his two riders to explain how they should handle this...Just said they should take their timeJos |

Posted on Thursday, Nov 15, 2007 - 7:14 pm: So..Elizabeth...do you order these via website? Or do they sell them at Wal-Mart? I'd like to get one for Christmas, but I'd like one that is quiet, like yours. I'd hate to have to buy several before I find the brand that you have. Do tell.....give us some more specifics here - if it's OK to name brands, that is. |

Posted on Friday, Nov 16, 2007 - 3:43 am: In France you can do whatever you like but you do NOT talk about it[and think about explaining in french my french is good but in certain areas I lack vocabulary boy could that have given nice misunderstandings]I am wondering though why everybody is roasting Elizabeth and moaning about where to buy instead of running to their drawers and admitting they already have one[or more] If WalMart has them they get sold but to who??? Posted on Friday, Nov 16, 2007 - 9:03 am: Jos,How do you say "BOB" in French? That is what my single friends call these gadgets. Maybe the French guys would just think you are referring to a trainer named Bob. Lots of stores have those hand held massagers that look like an octopus with stubby legs. They come in all kinds of wild colors and we always turn them on and have a good laugh! Going to Wal Mart today, hey, maybe I'll pick one up! They should have some to pick from being they are getting stocked up for Christmas. Not really the same as the cordless vibrator but I think it could still serve a purpose in horse desensitation. Hmmm...I bet if I can find my hubby cordless shaver, that would work too. Probably not as much vibration, at least I hope not, but it might be similar in size. Hope he didn't through it out. |

Posted on Friday, Nov 16, 2007 - 9:41 am: Jos,ROFL.... I don't know for sure, but I am thinking this is not the WallyWorldWay! I wonder where in WalMart one would find them... Next to the "Jesus Loves me" t shirts ???? NOT!!!! Wireless? Connectivity??? Probably not with the Camouflage spray paint... I can just hear the overhead announcement now 'Attention WalMart Associates, customer needs assistance at the vibrator cabinet, customer has been waiting, getting cranky".... |

Posted on Friday, Nov 16, 2007 - 10:38 am: At the risk of being serious here, I actually use the Wahl cordless clippers .. so they are ready made to use for desensitizing as well. You can take the blade off or cover it and just use for the noise and feel. Then, when you are ready to clip, voila you have clippers already in hand. Not nearly as entertaining however. DT |

Posted on Friday, Nov 16, 2007 - 1:09 pm: Now come on girls, are you telling me none of you have those "Adult" stores in your areas? Not saying how I know this, but they stock them in all sizes, shapes, and colors.Linda |

Posted on Saturday, Nov 17, 2007 - 6:43 pm: OK, what's worse: going into an adult store for a cordless vibratoror Going into an adult store for a cordless vibrator and saying: It's for my horse. ????? Seriously, these are "seasonal items" and the big box stores will have lots of them for Christmas. Santa's little helpers, I guess. |

Posted on Thursday, Nov 22, 2007 - 1:53 pm: We could always put it on our christmas list and see the shock on our hubby's eyes when they read it!! They might think it is a great idea and run right out and buy us one. Mind you, they might also be disappointed come christmas morning when we open it and run right out to the barn with it and use it on the horses!! |
