Your horse will thank you if you take a few steps to warm the bit prior to bridling. You can loop the crown and reins of the bridle over your head and tuck the bit down the front of your jacket while you groom, saddle, etc. Or, we have a small, electric space heater on a counter in the tack room that we turn on and lay bridle with bit in front of the stream of warmer air. The trick is to have a safe place to do this and to turn off the heater when you are done. (If it is really cold, we use the heater ourselves!) Cheers.

Christine, I always warm the bit but what a great tip you have passed along. Hang the bridle over my neck and tuck it in my jacket. Lori

I warm the bit in my hand, but these are better ideas. What I was wondering is if a horse can get his tongue stuck to a cold bit, like kids get their tongues stuck to cold metal on a playground? Anyone ever heard of that? Sorry, but all this wintery weather gives me too much time sitting and wondering!
