Dr. O, my horses have all day turnout, and I bring them in around 5 pm for the night. they are out from 9am to 5pm every day. They have about 3 acres of pasture and grove to hang out in. The other pastures are cordoned off so they can grow.
My question is, do I need to limit the time they are on the grass now that it is growing? It is, of course very short, and truthfully, Levi likes the dry hay better I think. It is just coming up, and they don't graze on it continually. With Levi having the rotation problem, do I need to worry about foundering on this pasture? He has never had a problem with pasture before, they keep it pretty short, and I keep them off the other pasture for quite some time, so it can grow long. Last year they were on a dry lot all winter, so we could refresh the pastures, so I did short intro's to the pasture, but they have been on this all winter.
thanks for your advice. So far Levi is doing great, want to keep it that way

If he has not had problems with lush pasture in the past and not in a heavy condition I would try to keep him on pasture but would watch like a hawk. He is a bit more predisposed than he was before.

Thanks Dr. O, I may invest in a grazing muzzle, as Levi's favorite pasttime is eating continously!
Happy Spring
