Dr O,
I have A 20 something quarter mix mare. I have oned her for about 6 or 7 months Before I obtained her she was being boarded in a pasture with very little grass and very little hay supplement, when I got her she looked considerably underwieght. I had her teeth done and a physical examination. my problem is it seems that I cannot seem to keep weight on her! sometimes she good weight then the nextcouple of weeks she looks thin again! I was feeding her a senior feed along with the alfalfa hay my boarder gives, but it seemed to make her more high strung so I took her off. (She does definately not act like her age) Should I try the senior feed again? or more feed? Also I do worm her on a regular basis. Also she is ridden about once or twice a week on short trail rides.

Thanks for your help!

Yes you need to increase her feed Jenniffer and you may find that as she gains weight and feels better that she may act up a bit. For information on how to approach feeding her review, Care for Horses » Nutrition » Equine Nutrition an Overview of Feeding Horses it also has a link to take you to articles on difficult keepers. You should also see Training Horses » Behavioral Problems to help with the training issues.
