Hello DrO, I know the recommendation for time between a primary vaccine and the booster - but how soon is it possible to give the booster and have it still be effective? I'm asking because I have a mare who will be traveling from Texas to Kentucky - from one 'closed' herd situation into another. She is 19 years old and in excellent health, and has never been vaccinated for flu/rhino until I gave her a primary a on 4/3. It now looks like she has to leave for Kentucky sooner than originally planned, probably on the 19th or 20th. I'd rather not give her the booster within 7 days of traveling, but that means giving it on the 13th, only 10 days after the primary. As I see it, my options are: 1) give the booster on the 13th 2) give the booster later that week, say the 17th, 2 weeks after the primary and only 3 days before travel 3) tell the manager of the farm she's moving to that she needs a F/R booster apx 5/1 Would you please tell me which of those options you think is best? Or if there's another one that you prefer that I haven't thought of? Thanks!

Lisa you will need to read the instructions on the vaccine for the earliest the booster can be given but 21 days in general would be the earliest. DrO

Thanks DrO, that's what I wanted to know, if it's effective if given earlier. If she does leave that soon I'll just have them give it to her at 3 or 4 weeks.
