Dr.O. I have the opprotunity to buy enough hay for the horses for the winter. It finally quit raining and the hay got put up very nice. HOWEVER it is 1st crop and very mature due to the late cutting. Considering I have easy keepers would just that type of hay be good enough if I supplemented them with a vit/min. and probably some alfalfa pellets.

I almost hate to turn it down to see what 2nd crop brings, I have a feeling hay is going to be scarce and who knows what the weather will bring.
Then again if it isn't going to be good enough why waste my money? I can get it for $2.75 delievered. or $2 off the wagon the price is right. Thanks

Never mind I found the ans. in the article. The barn is going to be filled up, not going to risk a bad second cutting.

A lot of hay ground is going into beans after 1st cutting due to the winter kill, so that will eliminate quite a bit of 2nd crop.
