Last years straw was horrible so I used woodshavings. They are very expensive and horses on a diet[poor Grasse] have totally nothing to munch on during stable time.
First straw this year looks wonderful and I would like to change immediately to the new straw but it is Rye straw and the french[and Dutch] old horsepeople say you cannot use that because of the 'hooks' in the straw which will give risk of colic. Needless to say my horses won't eat much straw as they are not starving[my opinion not theirs] but is this true? Perhaps I didn't search well but couldn't find any information in the bedding and forage articles.
Thanks
Jos
