As a disclaimer for those of you who aren't aware, this is a 29yo mare who can not hold her back hooves up anymore for farrier care. She hasn't been trimmed for about 1.5 yrs.

OK I thought these very interesting, you can see how the quarters are trimming themselves in a way that relives them...so that is making a believer of me.

My pics aren't the greatest (surprise) but you can also see how the toe is first squaring then rolling itself more round.

1st pic the subject 29 yo mare pasture kept on varying terrain, varying from soft, to hard with gravel and rock. Paddock is hard limestone.

The hooves, what do you think? She does a better job then my farrier sometimes!

This one I find interesting, especially the hoof not featured ...the one on the left of the screen, you can really see how the quarters self trimmed

I think her feet are in amazing condition. Too bad all horses didn't have access to hard gravelly conditions.

Your horse must have well-balanced feet to self trim like this. Given good balance and proper conditions, horses can (and in the past likely did) maintain themselves.

When she's done her hoof will look just about perfect, not sure what the solar view may look like, but she seems to clean them well also. When she walks I can see the bottoms are usually clean.

When they get muddy it dries and falls out...kinda makes me want to try this on Hank!

Well I think the mare is done with her trimming job, I KNOW my farrier isn't as good as her!

I don't see anything much I can pick apart.
Her hair line looks good, looks like she did a bit of a roll too.

Sorry about the mud, but you get the idea.
