Posted on Saturday, Nov 15, 2008 - 11:20 am: Just curious as to whether any of you give your horses a multi? It was recommended that I give a biotin supplement for my boys, and in my research, have started to wonder whether I should just give them a multi-dimensional one. They are not on pasture at all. I did read the vitamin article. Thanks! |

Posted on Saturday, Nov 15, 2008 - 11:46 am: Gwen, I gave Hank a very good biotin supplement for over a year and really didn't see a difference in his hoof "quality" his hoof did seem to grow faser tho! This is what I used and it has everything Dr.O.'s article suggests and then some.https://www.horsetech.com/bioflax_ultra.htm#Secure%20Online%20Ordering! I switched to sho-glo by manna pro it's an all around supplement and cheap comparatively speaking. Their hay is stemmy and probably not the most nutritious. His hooves seem better than when on the biotin, but I think that is probably from trimming more than anything, but who knows! I've been happy with the Sho-Glo. https://www.mannapro.com/sho-glo.htm |

Never did a lick of good for 2 years. then I switched to a multi vitamin and mineral supplement, Select II.Her feet made an incredible improvement in just a few months. I saw a better quality hoof several months later but I saw an immediate increase in the rate her hooves were growing. My farrier was amazed too. Her mane started to grow less frizzy too. |

Posted on Sunday, Nov 16, 2008 - 8:30 am: Diane,Thanks for the link to the Manna Pro supplements. I wish I didn't have 2 huge buckets of a Selenium and Vit E bought up ahead right now. And a mega expensive bucket of Joint Supplement. I will definetely be switching to the ShoFlex Joint in the future. I might still order the ShoGlo, and give that every other day, alternating with the Se/E cuz like you I worry about the hay quality this year. One of the web sites did say not to give extra SE as it provides 1 MG per 2 oz. I think all vitamins and minerals are needed to work together to get good results. Once you have the base, you can still add some speciality ones if needed. Works for my body anyhow! |

I was giving her legend and have been able to quit that. She really has the arthritis bad too. I decided to be cheap and didn't order any a few mos. ago and noticed a BIG difference with in a week (hubby did to) so that tells you something. Vet was even impressed and he doesn't believe orals help!https://www.coxvetlab.com/products/acti-flex4000.htm I buy it from Big Debs by the gallon, they always give you a free quart also! So I get 5 MONTHS worth for about $100 including shipping! https://www.bigdweb.com/detail.aspx?id=18447 It claims you can see a difference with-in 5 days, took the mare about a month! |

Posted on Sunday, Nov 16, 2008 - 10:06 am: Thanks Diane, I love hearing what others use, and love comparing prices to get the best deal. I feed Aniflex Complete, and it does make a difference in my "creaky" mare. I tried the regular Aniflex, I believe it has no ChonDrOitin, no HA, and it didn't work at all it seemed. It looks like not only does the ActiFlex 4000 have more of the key ingredients, it is a better price also.Plus using the liqued will be better than a powdery sup that she avoids unless I wet her pellets. So, it will be the ShoGlo multi, and ActiFlex 4000 when it's time to reorder. CA$$$-CHING!!! |

Posted on Sunday, Nov 16, 2008 - 11:36 am: Just Curious,Are your horses also on a pelleted feed? What brand? I was feeding LMF Development tried Safe Choice for a couple of months then switched to Strategy GX and I think I like this one the best so far. Thoughts? Thanks, Kathy |

Posted on Sunday, Nov 16, 2008 - 1:39 pm: Kathy,I feed SafeChoice, but only feed that to have something for the supplements to stick to. And I sneak some of the deer bait (corn)in this time of year. When I've needed more calories, I've added corn oil. Because I don't feed enough of the SafeChoice, I do feel I need to supplement. I think DrO's advice on here for nutrition is good grass hay, a mineral block, and water. |

Posted on Sunday, Nov 16, 2008 - 1:47 pm: Mine get a handful of safechoice and a handful of alfalfa pellets, because they are prone to being fat!I can't even feed good quality hay. That's why I feel the need for an all around supplement, which does seem to be making a difference in overall looks and health. I think Dr.O. recommends using a human vitamin, which I looked for. The Sho-Glo was cheaper than the human muti-vitamin if given at a rate of 1 per 200#'s. But nothing is cheap around here. |
