Some folks are reporting there is a shortage of beet pulp in the USA and this shortage is expected to continue. It is recommended that you keep a ready supply on hand or investigate alternative foodstuffs as you may find it unavailable for a month or two at a time:
If you feed it for heaves, consider hay cubes.
If you feed it for low nonstructural carbohydrates (sugars and starches) consider coastal bermuda hay.
If you feed it to hard keeping horses or those who have trouble masticating, soaked alfalfa or grass hay cubes may help.

Thanks Dr.O. We are having a hard time finding the alfalfa or grass hay cubes or pellets. I asked the farm store when they are going to get some and they didn't know.

Anyone else having that problem?

No yet, Diane. But I suspect the time is coming. Hay right now is twice it's usual price as are pellets and cubes. Beet pulp is still available, but is pricey, as are all the grains of course.

My feed mix has a lot of beet pulp in it, so this certainly is of concern. I have purchased a fairly good supply since the weather is cool and the distance to the store that carries it is great.

I lucked into some good local Tifton coastal hay that my horses love, delivered and stacked 250 bales this fall, which gives me a fair amount of peace of mind.
