Hello,
Does anyone have a recipe for cough syrup for horses? Many of the ingredient lists for over the counter products start off with "Honey, Apple cider vinegar, alcohol, lemon juice" etc.

I'm having trouble locating the ready made products promptly and want to help out my horse NOW.
I have left a message with my Vet, also ..and won't give him anything before hearing from her, but wanted to ask the masses of helpful folks here also.
FYI...Horse has always had a mild clear out cough when first starts out in work (about 6 vets have listened to his airways in the past few years...they all say it sounds great)
The past few days it has been more persistent with slight gurgling sounds. No temp, runny nose and all others systems look good. Hay is shook & watered. & vet is aware & giving him 3 days off & watching him & him barn mates.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Ike, this is not a problem that should be addressed with a cough suppressant. I would like for you to study the article Diseases of Horses » Respiratory System » Chronic Cough Without Fever then follow the link in the article to the one on COPD so this can be addressed before it becomes more serious. You will find therapy recommendations there but it is important to understand the possible repercussions of not managing this cough correctly.
