several months ago i emailed re: yearling filly w acute renal failure. has been almost four full months since onset. last lab work showed almost normal kidney functions, but still not completely concentrating urine. she has regained energy, growing.. 15'2 plus at withers..., and has good energy and bright eye. have learned much, chosen not to take to vet clinic some 250 miles away for kidney u/s and biopsy. waiting to see what spring brings and let her tell me how she feels. hair coat is healthy and she has wintered well, temps to 25 below zero, windchills up to 50 below. she is on grass hay w small amt of alfalfa, platinum performance as supplement. is there more i should be doing for her to support her kidneys? no, we have not figured out what caused the arf.

did not figure it out. reviewed all plants in the area and the only plant would have caused neurological problems. one of my beliefs is that she may have be dehydrated when we treated her for what appeared to be slight colic initially, using banamine. some discussions i have read abt that issue. dehydrated horses treated w banamine can have kidney affects. ???? i am being quite sure this year that i keep all weeds etc killed off in area. other question in my mind is is she has a congenital condition. i wrote another email under chronic renal failure that you can look at.
