I have read through the articles and though there was one thread that included mention of using compressed hay for a horse with mold allergies, I don't see a recommendation for its use in the forage articles. Could you please address?
Another question, how do you balance the higher content of Ca/Ph in Alfalfa if you feed it in the cube form?
Thanks so much.

Hello J,
Compressed hay can be used anywhere regular hay could be used.

In general adult horses do fine with the high calcium of alfalfa even when fed 100% alfalfa, though it falls out of the recommended range. In most cases horses are fed alfalfa as a supplement to pasture or poorer quality grass hays which bring the cal/phos levels and balance back into a recommended range. We have more on feeding alfalfa to horses at Horse Care » Equine Nutrition, Horse Feeds, Feeding » Alfalfa, Clover: Legumes in the Horse's Diet.

Though it is usually necessary to order them, T & A cubes are available and they would probably provide the balance you are asking about. Triple Crown is one of the feed companies that makes them.

Thank you Dr.Oglesby and Vicki Zaneis. I have found the Triple Crown cubes locally and the combination of T&A sounds like good advise. Thanks
