Hi Dr.O. I took Hank out to work him today and he was just fine when I groomed him and went down.

He worked well in the arena, came back to the pasture fine. When I took his halter off he started rubbing his right ear on everything, cocking it, and shaking his head. I think maybe he may have got some lime down his ear when he was cantering around...does something like this clears itself?

Is there anything I can do?

Thanks

If I thought I had a horse with something bothersome in his ear I would try to remove it by wiping or rinsing. Most horses will need sedation to do this however. If by lime you mean agricultural lime, that is really a bit like dirt and in time will work out. If you mean hydrated lime it should be washed out carefully.

Thanks Dr.O. I meant ag lime. He went and rolled later last night and kept rubbing his ear on the ground...quite vigorously! When he got up he shook his head about 1000 times and then seemed fine.

This morning still ok, so he must have got it out

Thanks
