Hi everyone,

We continue to look for property so we can bring our horses home instead of boarding them. We looked at a 20 acre parcel today that had the perfect house on it but the land is mostly sand... there's some grass, but not much. Our horses don't have access to much pasture as we are trying to control their calories/weight, and one has foundered.

I know there are products like SandClear on the market, but should we even be considering property that is so sandy?

Hello JenT,
If at all possible I would avoid the further complications to horse management that living on sand presents. For more on managing to prevent sand colic see Diseases of Horses » Colic, Diarrhea, GI Tract » Colic in Horses » Sand Colic.
