my horse has been lame for 2 months..xrays confirm a bone spur in fetlock..vet says if operated on he must have boxrest for 3 mos and recoup for 6 months by which time it could have grown back..he advises me to have him put down..gutted..can it b lazered..how quickly do they grow back..any alternatives?

Welcome Jennifer,
This is a very confusing post and so I wonder if what you are calling a bone spur is what I think of. Bone spurs within the joints (called osteophytes) are not painful is the sense that the spur is sticking something and therefore removing one is likely to relieve lameness. They are of significance in that they form in the presence of joint inflammation so indicate chronic inflammation. However you should notre that many horses with osteophytes are sound so by itself it is not diagnostic for a cause of lameness.

How was the lameness localized to this joint and what is the history associated with this lameness?
