Just got new 7 mo show gelding home from breeder. She gave 6-way 5-6 weeks ago before futurity. Our next show is in February.

I've read the article, but Valley-Vet is never that easy! Would someone look over this, see if I have this right? We live in Central/East Texas.

Strepvax II (Strangles) 3 1-ml doses given at 3 week intervals initially

Rhinomune (EHV-1) 2 doses, 3-4 weeks apart. Revaccination every 3 months with a single dose.

Nile Innovator + VEWT (W. Nile + 3-way S. Sickness + Tet) 1 dose

Thanks!

Hello Michelle,
I know you think this is probably an easy question but not knowing the diseases that are prevalent in your area and not being familiar with some of these vaccines I cannot know what is right for your horse. This would be best discussed with your veterinarian.

We do have specific recommendations for vaccinating yearling in the article associated with this discussion. But as the article explains it should be modified with knowledge of local conditions.

As to whether this is the proper way to give these vaccines, you should follow the instructions on the vaccine inserts. For instance I don't know what the primary series for Strepvax might be since I don't give injectable Strangles. There is more on this in the articles.
