I de-wormed the horses yesterday, after I de-worm them they get an extra special treat. Those little horse snacks that come in licorice, carrot, peppermint, or apple flavor.. Start to Finish horse snacks. I stuck a couple handfuls in my coat pocket, de-wormed them and they each got a couple of the treats. It was a warm day out and I was doing the scrape the poop thing and took my jacket off and hung it on a gate. Those horses have noses like blood hounds and smelled the treats in my coat pocket. They spent the whole time I was out there(hours) trying to get the treats out of the pocket, which has a small hole in it. Every once in awhile a treat would DrOp out from them shaking my coat and trying to get their noses in my pocket. My coat was soaked with horse saliva when I went in. If I ever have a horse on stall rest again I am going to hang an old coat with treats in the pockets. I have never seen them so intent on getting something and had fun I am going to do it again today, usually I give them some hay to keep them "out of my hair" while cleaning up, this worked better and lasted longer...until I was done |

My farrier tells this story: He was shoeing one day and as it warmed up he removed his coat and hung it on a fence post next to the tied horse. When he finished, he had two other horses to tend to in the barn and left coat and horse outside. When he came back, the horse was on the ground in distress with only ONE sleeve of the coat still protruding from his mouth! The horse had swallowed the rest of it! They were able to pull the whole coat back out and the horse recovered, but if they hadn't got back there in time, it would have been curtains!! |

Your farrier must have had a flimsy coat.Jos it was funny they have no interest in those snack dispensers, but my coat entertained them for hours, they knew the treats were in my pockets, they could smell them I guess. They only went after the pockets. I'll video them today.. |

He wouldn't share with Flash and Sam, I gave them hay, Hank had no interest in it with the stall coat there.. This would be a great stall toy..the stall treat coathttps://picasaweb.google.com/hank97/20100306HanksCoatAndHooves#544562186427890129 8 https://picasaweb.google.com/hank97/20100306HanksCoatAndHooves#544562397653048211 4 https://picasaweb.google.com/hank97/20100306HanksCoatAndHooves#544562515351158816 2 JACKPOT https://picasaweb.google.com/hank97/20100306HanksCoatAndHooves#544562551677418587 4 |

Posted on Sunday, Mar 7, 2010 - 11:03 am: I always wear that coat...Don't hand feed the monster often tho, so he leaves me alone. It does show how trainable horses are, soon as I hung up my coat they were after it... Hank the Hog chased the other 2 off. He only goes after the pockets. God help me if I ever have to stall him, but if I do I think this would amuse him for hours on end.You guys must wear flimsy coats if your horses can rip them. |

Posted on Monday, Mar 8, 2010 - 1:47 pm: mine have gotten my coat on warm days and trampled it, ripped it and all kinds of stuff. Some times I tie rags tightly to a old Gallon container and toss it in for them to toss around but not often Cause I feel i have to monitor it all the time so they don't eat it. Fun fun fun till mommy takes the t-bird away huh! |
