I've been adding a teaspoon or so of white "mixing" salt to my horses' grain each feeding to aid in the absorption of vitamins and minerals in the grain. They receive Equishine daily as their vitamin and mineral supplement, so the purpose of this addition is not to supplement, but to ensure maximum absorption. I've been doing this for so long, I don't remember how I learned to do this. Is this a valid use of regulated salt in their diet?

Hello Louise,
I am not aware of any positive influence such a practice would have on total nutrient absorption. We do not recommend the use of plain white salt since it may decrease the consumption of trace mineral salts (which already includes white salt), for more on this see Horse Care » Equine Nutrition, Horse Feeds, Feeding » Minerals and Electrolytes for Horses, an Overview.
