Posted on Wednesday, Jun 30, 2010 - 2:46 pm: Hi all,I have got new appreciation for all of you who have been posting hoof photos. I am having a heck of a time to get a reasonable photo. Tried it in the daylight (vexed by shadows) then in the stall with a flash. That I won't try again .... Jose flipped over that. Anyway, for what it is worth. My horses were just trimmed on Friday, the photos were taken Monday. The trimmer actually trimmed some sole and some frog - they were shedding. She does not always do that. Normally she uses the nippers at the toe, then rasps the bottom of the foot, and finishes up by rounding of the edges. Well - added labels to the photos, and it made them to large. Will try again this afternoon. Surprise this one showed up. Left front - half obscured by shadow. This is hard .... Lilo |

I could try it in front of the house on my mini-lawn, but my horses are forever starved for green grass - not sure they would cooperate. I believe natural light would be better, however. The flash was not such a good idea.Lilo |

Posted on Friday, Jul 2, 2010 - 9:59 pm: OK - I am giving up. Any copy and paste methods I know won't work with these photos.I was able to place them into a Word document, but cannot copy them back to HA. Will have to upload them again - unless DrO can combine the two discussions. Lilo |

You said she is sound too.I don't think you can copy and paste pics, seems I tried that route before with no luck, think that would be too easy.. Let Dr.O. do it it's probably much easier in the long run!! BTW you did a very good job for a first try!!! Took me years and I still struggle with good hoof pics. |

Probably is not worth fixing, but it is hard to find cameras anymore with a viewfinder. However, for hoof pics I found the LCD screen more useful. My trimmer found some bruising at the toes of the front feet. We think it it from digging in the dirt (she keeps thinking she can dig herself out and get to the grass ???? ). Lilo |

Posted on Saturday, Jul 3, 2010 - 11:10 am: Thank you - DrO! You must have been the one combining the two threads. Now you hoof gurus can see all the photos in one thread. I am going to wait for another trim, and try again. Yes, Diane - both my horses are sound and even if there are some irregularities, I am not going to change anything. It surprised me that both horses seemed to have a flat foot this time. Moonlight always has had "flat" feet - however, Jose usually has good concavity. The environment apparently has a lot of influence here. I have another idea what might have caused the bruising on Moonlight's front hooves - the incessant stomping because of the flies could have something to do with it. Yet - no lameness, and that is what I go by. Lilo |
