Has anyone tried boots on a shod horse? My 24 year old appaloosa is used for light trail riding. He has always had flat soles, and does have some rotation in from from a very old founder. Even shod he is tender when walking over rocks/gravel. I would like to put boots on him for extra protection, but the one time I tried an easyboot it came off. Anyone out there successfully use a boot this way? Thanks.

I have been forced to do some reading on boots. We have two horses barefoot. The Cavello Simple Boot and the Old Mac are both marketed as appropriate for use over shoes, as shipping boots. I would not expect the easyboot line to work.

I have also researched boots and I believe you can ship in them as Guy states, but they recommend you do not ride with them over shoes. When I had problems like that (still do actually!) with flat foot Hank I had the farrier put an equipak pad on with his shoe, it worked great and actually helped toughen his sole a bit.

old macs work fine over shoes - make sure you measure and order the correct size though. and get the neoprene sleeve or gator that goes with it to protect the tender skin.
