OK, I know this sounds weird, but right before I brought my mare in, I checked the nest of my broody hen. One egg had broken and there was a distinct smell of rotten egg. I picked up the remaining eggs and checked them. Then I went to get my mare. She would not take her nose off my hands!! She just sniffed and sniffed and stopped dead in her tracks. She wasn't alarmed or upset, she was clearly mesmerized by the scent. She finally began to lick my hands. Should I give her a sulphur supplement? Anyone had anything similar? She's on mixed pasture all day, gets 1.5 pounds of beet-pulp based feed a.m./p.m. and some grass hay overnight. She has free choice salt which she ignores. Jerre

No this is not an indication of a sulfur deficiency and a common reaction to novel odors Jerre. I presume that is a trace mineral block? DrO

Yes, Dr. O. And, thanks. Also, her grain is formulated for the region.
