We rescued a 14 year old Percheron a few months ago. From day one, he had very strong, unusual smelling manure--not like any other horses at the barn or that I have encountered. I actually don't mind the smell of MOST horses! :-)

It is terrible to clean his paddock due to the lingering smell. Anyone encountered this or have an idea of what could be causing it? His stools are consistently soft; not firm apples but looser balls.

He eats orchard grass hay, has several acres of pasture, has a vit/mineral supplement, a joint supplement, and free choice salt. He is a good weight, has a shiny coat, and has good energy/mood.

Any ideas of what this pungent odor may be related to?
Thanks!

Is there MSM in his joint supplement? I don't know why but some horses get horrible smelling poop from it.

There was one horse at the barn I worked at that stunk so bad from it we tool him off it. The smell went away Every horse there that was on MSM had bad smelling manure. This guys was exceptionally bad!
