Conditions in my pasture make it impossible to keep shoes on a horse. I just learned that Old Macs are not recommended for my Arab gelding. I have a friend who says her riding stable horses develop calluses from riding on graveled trails. If this is the case, is there a process for building up some calluses? One of my biggest concerns is stone bruising.

The first time I saw the intentional promotion of a sole callus was with Dr Redden's four point trim, HorseAdvice.com » Horse Care » Hoof Care, Hoof Trimming, Shoeing Horses » The 4 Point or Natural Trim. You will also find in this topic a 3 part discussion on sole calluses.
