Considering adding this supplement for my 2 horses on drylot with stemy grass hay only, has anyone tried it? Has 25% protein, 100,000 iu Vitamin A, 500 IU Vitamin E. Looks complete on the Vit A a little short on Vit E. https://www.mannapro.com/products/horse-manna/nutritional-information/ the 4 oz dose would end up at $0.40 per day per horse.

I would be worried about using that for horses who have metabolic issues.

The ingredients don't sound too bad though. The high amount of protein kind of worried me but I guess that you wouldn't be feeding much of it.

I use calf manna for my horses, probably the same product. I started using this to balance the rest of my feed and get my horses up to 15% overall. I took into consideration the weights of all my hay and feed, how much my horses weigh, what % of feed/hay to weight and the heavy amount of training and racing they do. I think Dr. O has a calculation to calculate the protein content across the whole ration depending on the lbs fed per feed component. Rachelle

Hi Kathy, The primary problem with feeding a stemmy hay is the lack of protein and perhaps some oil soluble vitamins. This solves most of these problems assuming the horse gets plenty of sunlight. However 1 oz (25% od 4 oz.) of extra protein is not likely to fix your horse's protein requirement. For more on this see the article on HorseAdvice.com » Horse Care » Equine Nutrition, Horse Feeds, Feeding » Equine Nutrition an Overview of Feeding Horses. The article discusses alfalfa (hay or cubes) as a supplement and you should consider this. DrO
