In CA. we are vaccinating our horses twice yearly for this awful illness, in my area alone there have been several human deaths.... My question is my 6 month shot is due for my horses,I have one mare that is not 100 days along in her pregnancy... I have read that I should not give her ANY shots prior to this... Is there a time when it would be safer to vaccinate her..? Last year, we did our mares, but they were well past the 100 days...

Thanks as usual for you incite...
On the first day God created horses, on the second day he painted them with SPOTS..

There is no strong reason not to go ahead and vaccinate, unless perhaps this mare has troubles with her vaccines, but then again it is uncertain that 2 times yearly with WNV is better than once yearly. If you wanted to wait a short while just to be sure you don't have an unusual reaction I suspect that would be fine. For more on the studies on efficacy and reaction to the WNV vaccine see, Equine Diseases » Nervous System » Incoordination, Weakness, Spasticity, Tremors » West Nile Virus.
