I was recently told that there are studies that show supplementing with both Duralactin and Glucosamine or Glucosamine/ChonDrOitin is better than just the oral GAGs.

Is this true? Or "Duralactin" hype? It is supposed to be true for canines and humans, too.

(note that spelling is Duralactin)

Thanks.

Hello Christine,

No doubt you have been on the web. What are your best sites on Duralactin. What is it?

It is a brand name for something made out of milk protein. I heard about it from a small animal vet and was looking for some sense that it was indeed helpful.

Petvetdirect.com seems to have pretty good pricing, but there are others that are better. Countryside? I forget.

The official site is www.duralactin.com

Cheers.

Oh...those magical milk proteins. It seems like every time you turn around you see new claims made for them. There are several reports of anti-arthritic properties of some concentrated or disrupted milk peptides in rat and mouse feet models and there is a bit of biased research about hyperimmunized cows milk protein concentrates and owner evaluations of their arthritic dogs. But I cannot find anything about their use with glucosamine or use in horses either. It all seems very nebulous to me Chris and nowhere near applicable information for the treatment of arthritis in horses. I would consider the use experimental.

"I would consider the use experimental."

How diplomatic! Just cracked me up. Thanks Dr. O.
