This doesn't make sense to me but a couple of people told me this including a "VET Tech". Better safe than sorry.

Toxic no. But feeding too many of them when a horses system is not use to them may cause digestive upsets.

Do you mean green as in not ripe yet or green as in color. I used to keep my horse at a barn in NJ that was an old apple orchard. Green apples. The horses would be thrilled when they would start to fall. I was always paranoid about it but the most I ever saw were some loose stools (I was the stall cleaner) . Of course the horses were gradually introduced to them as they began to fall, I think that was the key. They were turned out there only in the day and of courses they had regular hay and grain. The horses did, however, keep the apples pretty much cleaned up. I don't believe they turned the pony out there.
