I have recently rerouted an electric fence around one of my pastures. There are many splices in it, it will serve a 2 acre area. Currently using 'd' batteries but will hook up a car battery when I find a used one that will still take a charge. The 'd' batteries do nothing, which doesn't surprize me. Will all the splices weaken the charge? If so, can I compensate w/ a really strong battery? Thanks, Chris

Chris it depends on the quality of the splices, what kind of wire and how did you put them together? DrO

Dr O, the splices are the loop thru with each end tightly wrapped around each strand, well done according to my husband, the wire is the thin but stiff electric wire, it is approximately 10 yrs old too, which hubby now tells me makes a difference. Also he is now wondering if he should have sanded the ends when making new splices? This wire is mainly being used to keep the horses from sticking their heads thru fence to graze, and rubbing off their manes. It is on outside of fence about 20-24 inches off ground. Thank you, Chris

If the splices are good, I don't think you should have a problem. Certainly wire that has a lot of rust may be a problem but you should be able to visually access that. DrO

Thanks so much Dr O. I will now pursue the stronger battery and hope it works. Chris No rust on wire, but it is not as shiney as it was when new, keeping fingers crossed.
