Hello, One of the tires on our horse trailer got very flat over the winter. We were planning on taking the tire in to a gas station to be filled up with air and inspected because it has been flat for some time. I am wondering if I should invest in a portable air compressor after seeing one at Costco for $60. My question is, do the less expensive air compressors work well? Do you have to spend a lot of money to get an air compressor? What brands have others used, and which are the best value?

Debbie, Compare the psi(pounds per square inch) and cfm(cubic feet per minute) capacity of the compressor. In my experience the cfm of cheap 12 vdc compressors is very low, if you have an hour it'll get the job done. And because the they have to work so hard they don't last very long. Portable tanks used to be available, they were filled off a large compressor, like a 110vac in your garage, and could be carried to where it the air was needed. I had one for sometime and it worked good for one or two tires, then it needed to be filled again. There are kits sold to convert old propane tanks for air use and are another option. Good day, Alden

Thanks Alden, I just checked Costco online but couldn't find the exact same thing as I saw at the retail store. However, here is a less expensive version. It doesn't look very heavy duty, and I think the one at the store was bigger/more PSI. https://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11109037&whse=&topnav=&browse=& s=1
