"pushing" sand through the bowels than straight Timothy hay? I was wondering do to several differing opinions I heard while at the feed store.

Hello Charlayne,
There is no science on this subject and when sand removers are tested vs a regular diet there appears to be little difference in the rate of sand clearance. For more on dealing with this problem see, Diseases of Horses » Colic and GI Diseases » Colic in Horses » Sand Colic.
