I have read so many articles with varying viewpoints on what is the proper age to start immunizing a foal and am now utterly confused! What is the proper age to start immunizations? And how often should they be given? I read that two sets of vaccinations about three weeks apart will suffice for a year. And I have read that a set of vaccinations need to take place monthly at least for six months. I have read that immunizations should start at two months of age. And I have also read that vacinations, if given before four months of age, won't be any good. Help! Please advise!

I suggest you read the general article on vaccinations, your specific questions are dealt with in there. Then follow our suggestions in the Vaccination Schedules, unless your vet has a good reason for not doing that way. DrO

Thank you! I read the article. In the Weanlings section it says what to do at 4 mo., 5 mo. and so on. Does this mean that vaccinations should be started at 4 mo. and then repeated at 5 mo. and so on? Or does it mean that if the foal is vaccinated at one of those ages it is done till the next year?

Repeated most vaccines require frequent boosters to get them started. DrO
